what's in bloom?
I always know Winter is coming when the tightly closed Amarylis stems arrive at market. They are so deceiving because once fully opened they are the most dramatic trumpet shaped flower that last for ages and exude a sense of drama and stature. Whilst Amarylis are synomous with Winter all the spring flowers become available too so tulips, ranunculus, anemones, hyacinths and the dainty narcissis are very much a wintery offering.
Foliage and berries really come into their own at this time of year. I love to use ilex blue prince greenery with little holly like leaves that are much friendlier to our fingers, seeded eucalyptus, blue pine fur, midnight blue viburnum berries and fiery red chilli peppers...a veritable feast for the senses!
